I came across your article on CNN and I have to say how nice it is to hear someone telling this side of the story. I was an early mom in the 90s and all the things you are saying, I heard then too.

I had my first kid in college and married her dad when she was 8 months old. We had another daughter 4 years later.

We have now been married almost 19 years and have a great relationship (better than almost everyone I know). We have worked together to build a lovely life that we truly enjoy.

Yes, even now at almost 40, I have to put up with dumb comments from the other upper-middle-class moms, but I would not change a thing. I am looking forward to the next phase of my life as an active "young" empty-nester. I love that when my daughters are in their 20s, we will have both the energy and resources to travel together. I love that even if my daughters do wait to have kids, I won't be too old to play with their kids. I think the biggest thing I've learned from being a mom at 20 is to not be so self-absorbed.

I had a kid and I got on with my life.
