From My Inbox: A Teen Mom, 10 Years Later

From: Jessica BorstSubject: Thank you!!!

Message Body: I read your article on and I immediately found myself coming to check out your blog. While not in the same "category" as you, I was thought of as even less. I got pregnant at 17 and had my daughter a month before I graduated high school.

I can't tell you how many nights I was crying, feeling hopeless and worthless...all because others bestowed their same misjudgments on me.

I am now a 28 y/o married mom, who went on to college and grad school. It is sooooooo continuously frustrating to me that all there is that speaks to pregnant "irresponsible" teens or irresponsible pregnant women in their twenties is negativity. There is hardly any positive insight for them and these women, more than ever, need inspiration — to see other women who have been in their shoes and fought their hardest to pave the way for them. It isn't the end of the world, they will survive, they can be excellent parents, and — most importantly — it doesn't have to mean their children will be any less valuable, important, beautiful, kind, lifechanging, or ferocious. It just shows they can have more tenacity than those not born in those situations — and that is what should make them proud.

Thank you so much for putting into words what I have felt for more than 10 years.
